EXIT

Directed by Karen Winther

When confronted with the realisation that everything you once firmly believed is wrong, you are faced with a choice that will change your life. Through intimate conversations with former violent extremists the director asks: What prompted their decision to leave?

In EXIT, we meet Angela from the US and Ingo and Manuel from Germany who are all former right-wing extremists forced to live in hiding due to their dangerous pasts. In Denmark, Søren tells his story from the other side as a former violent left-wing extremist. And Frenchman David, who was active in the Armed Islamic Group and served 6 years in prison for engaging in terrorist activities.
Reflecting on her own extremist past and the stories of the people she meets along her travels, Karen moves closer to remembering her own “wake-up call” and gains a deeper understanding of what it really takes for an individual to leave their extreme movements behind.
